Challenge

Radio communications have always played an important and critical part in the role of MSS providing security services to its clients. MSS staff previously used a variety of analogue radios and was well aware of the limitations of analogue radio systems with poor and inconsistent radio communications and issues with battery life.

After deploying a Hytera Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) system at Governor Philip Tower in Sydney, and seeing the positive impact it made compared to analogue radios, MSS Management decided to deploy the same Hytera digital radios when they were awarded the security contract at the very high profile No 1 Blight Street Sydney.

“Having used the Hytera radios at Governor Philip Tower we knew that we would have superior radios, transmission quality and enhanced features that only a Digital radio product could provide.”

Hytera’s solution

The main requirement for radio communications for No. 1 Blight St. Sydney was to provide clear and reliable communications throughout the building. Combined Communications, the distributor of Hytera DMR radios in Australia, undertook a site radio coverage survey for MSS. They discovered that the vast majority of the building was covered by simplex radio-to-radio coverage.

In order to have total coverage of the building while maintaining the building’s aesthetics, it was decided that placing a Hytera DMR Repeater in the building basement area. They would then run a coaxial cable up to the ground levels to provide complete radio coverage wherever MSS and their client’s staff operated within the building and surrounding area.

Benefits

In comparison to previous analogue radio systems, MSS staff using the new Hytera DMR system experienced a number of benefits, such as:

  • No background noise on transmissions
  • Extended battery life on hand held radios
  • Standard digital encryption to secure radio transmission
  • The ability to make individual
  • Group calls and they found the Hytera DMR hand-held radios to be lightweight, tough and waterproof

“The open DMR system used by Hytera appealed to us and gives us the ability to build upon the Hytera system without being locked into a proprietary radio technology”
