Deploying digital mobile radios for the marine industry is very specialised. You have to understand the duties and operations of the ship crews in order to meet the specifics of their requirements. These requirements could be both mission critical and business critical depending on the vessel, circumstances or scenario. Hytera has the right communications solutions equipment for a variety of large and small yachts, ferries and boatyards.
Hytera solutions for boats and yachts
Ship to ship and ship to shore radios use VHF, but on board yachts the crew are issued with personal UHF radios as this provides much better penetration into the vessel. These radios operate on single-channel without guests on board, and multi-channel once crews are busy and require less cross-talk.
The Deck and Engineering teams need more robust radios (without a screen that could break), IP67 waterproofing, and the MIL-Std 810 G specification that provide salt fog protection, thus preventing corrosion of the device by the surrounding elements. All Hytera radios support MIL-STD 810 G.
The Interior team is better matched to discreet radios that suit their uniforms and do not attract attention from the guests. The interior team will always wear a headset or discrete earpiece when there are guests on board the vessel to avoid any unwanted noise disturbing the guests. They use a Bluetooth headset and have two united each so once can be constantly on charge whilst the other is in use.
Hytera's water-proof solutions are also IP67 resistant to handle the harshest of marine environments
Larger yachts may require repeater units on board to help the communications travel through the steel and aluminium structure of the ship.
